Federations

FIDE currently is one of the largest International Sports Federations, encompassing 201 National Chess Federations. Member Federations are national chess associations or corresponding organisations which have principal authority over chess activities in their own countries or territories and which have been admitted to FIDE.

The mission of National Chess Federations is the diffusion and development of chess in their respective countries, in accordance with the FIDE Charter, as well as the raising of the level of chess culture and knowledge on a sporting, scientific, creative, educational and cultural basis.
